The Phoenix ended the Technicians' three-year reign as the Detroit Public School League volleyball champions with a 3-1 comeback victory. Renaissance improved to 18-2 with the victory. Cass Tech won the hard-fought first set 27-25. The second set was another back-and-forth affair with neither team leading by more than two points. With the score tied at 24-24, Renaissance served out the game to net a 26-24 win and tie the match at 1-1. Renaissance pulled away from a 20-20 tie in the third set to win 25-21 as senior Alexus Everett had two kills to close the game and give the Phoenix a 2-1 lead. The Phoenix raced to a 11-2 lead in the fourth set only see the Technicians rally to tie the score at 12-12. The score was tied six more times in the match, the last time at 22-22. The Phoenix pulled away at the end for a 25-23 win and the match. Everett had eight kills in the final game. Renaissance opens the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1, District 27 playoffs on Nov. 4 against Warren Fitzgerald.
